Information about Blueberries

At Quinn Farm we have a number of different varieties of Blueberries, all of which were developed
by MacDonald College in the 1980s. We have Northern high bush varieties. Each variety has a unique flavour and ripens at slightly different times between mid-July and mid-August.

Blueberries are good source of dietary fibre, vitamin C and vitamin K. They have very high levels of antioxidants.

Storing and Preparing Blueberries

Blueberries have a fairly long shelf life, they will last up to a week in the fridge (sometimes
longer) do not wash until ready to use. Before using them make sure there are no small stems
or leaves by placing them in a bath of water (generally leaves and stems will float). Or pick out
pieces by hand.

To freeze blueberries put a thin layer of them on a cookie sheet and place them in the freezer.
Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer container (Ziploc or Tupperware) and back into the
freezer. This way they will stay separate and you will be able to take out the quantity you want to
use instead of thawing a huge block of blueberries.
